WHAT MAKES OLD WESTMONT DIFFERENT
Old Westmont is a historic neighborhood that is mostly residential, featuring architecturally interesting houses, tree-lined streets, and broad sidewalks. One edge of the neighborhood overlooks Johnstown’s downtown, near the Inclined Plane — a 277-acre nature reserve, Stackhouse Park, wraps around much of the rest of it.
Old Westmont features an eclectic selection of places to walk, play, and experience nature, as well as shops, restaurants, faith communities and more. All of these are located within walking distance of any address in Old Westmont.
Inclined Plane
Old Westmont is home to Johnstown’s historic Inclined Plane. Built after the 1889 Johnstown Flood, the Incline made it possible for people to live high on the hillside and commute to work in the valley.
Restaurants and shops
Asiago’s, Young Heart Books and Toys, the Church Mouse antique store, Studio U, Clark’s Neighborhood Store, SEADS of Love Nursery & Greenhouse, and Millhouse Café are all here.
Stackhouse Park
Wrapping around the neighborhood, the park offers miles of trails, picnic pavilions, a newly built playground, and a bubbling stream called the Elk Run.
Grandview Cemetery
Historic Grandview Cemetery offers miles of paved roadway for walking and biking as well as a wooded trail which ends at an overlook to the Chapin Arch.
Schools and playgrounds
Old Westmont is family friendly, with six playgrounds, the newly built Westmont Hilltop Elementary School, Divine Mercy Catholic Academy, and two independent preschools.
Faith communities
Westmont Presbyterian Church, Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, and Beth Sholom Congregation are the faith centers of this community.
